Bonus: A woman who entered the departure area without undergoing background checks cost the Munich airport €1 million. She had no idea what had happened.

A single passenger caused some catastrophe at Munich Airport last year. She returned to the check-in area to put the liquid-filled bottle in her checked baggage after she was found in receipt of it by security authorities during a security screening. She then made the mistake of thinking she was not required to go through another security check, walking right by the officer and into the departure area without the necessary permission.

All airport operations stopped when the security team used CCTV to identify the security breach and took immediate action. The woman had already boarded her flight, not realizing all the destruction that was happening despite the police’s best efforts to find her. This event led to the closure of two terminals, causing delays in 330 flights and inconveniencing 32,000 passengers who missed their flights. The airport spent a considerable sum of money—roughly €1 million. Surprisingly, the passenger faced no consequences for the incident.
